THE ROLE OF CHATBOTS IN EDUCATION AND THEIR APPLICATION

Abstract

The article examines the role and place of educational chatbots in the modern learning process. It is substantiated
that advances in natural language processing and generative artificial intelligence have created the conditions for
the broad implementation of chatbots as an auxiliary didactic tool capable of functioning as a virtual advisor, a teaching
assistant, and a means of individualizing instruction. Based on an analysis of scientific sources, the directions of chatbot
use in education are systematized: organizational and informational support for students, support of independent work,
personalization of the learning trajectory, automation of assignment checking, and provision of feedback. A classification
of educational chatbots by dialogue construction principle is presented, together with a structural and a hybrid model of
their integration into the learning process. A comparison of the traditional control model and the chatbot-enhanced model
is provided across several pedagogically relevant criteria. Special attention is paid to the reliability of the information
provided, ethical aspects, and the necessity of preserving the teacher’s leading role when integrating chatbots into the
educational process.
