Abstract

This study analyzes the economic essence and modern requirements of food supply chains in emerging economies.
Food supply chains create economic value by delivering products from farmers to final consumers, improving
efficiency, and contributing to sustainable development. Modern supply chains require technological integration, digital
solutions, resilience, and flexibility. Innovative technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, artificial intelligence,
and data analytics enable product traceability, real-time monitoring, and efficient resource utilization. At the same
time, complex supply chain structures, dependence on global trade and long transportation routes, and limited resources
available to small and medium-sized enterprises may affect overall efficiency. The study highlights the economic significance
of food supply chains, their modern requirements, opportunities, and key challenges.

Keywords

food supply chain, economic essence, modern requirements, digital technologies, sustainability, emerging economies.
